DOUBLE DOWN - a broker's view.
Published 05 十一月 2020
We're delighted to welcome the 65.2m Codecasa DOUBLE DOWN to both our sales and charter Central Agency fleets. This remarkable yacht is currently lying in Los Angeles, where she's available for buyer inspections, but she can also be chartered this winter in California or the Caribbean and next summer in the Mediterranean, so potential owners, why not try before you buy?
Beverley Hills-based sales and charter broker Christian Bakewell talks us through the yacht.
Describe your new sales listing?
DOUBLE DOWN is what happens when a yacht is built without any compromise whatsoever. None. A huge amount of yachting experience has been designed into this yacht. Once you're on board all the amenities you could possibly want are at hand.
She is a 65m yacht - the biggest Codecasa has ever built - with a private owner's deck, which is a feature you don't typically see on 65m yachts. Because of her massive interior volume of 1,278GT spread across five decks she has the space to devote the entire upper deck to the owner. In total she sleeps up to 20 guests, whilst in private use, in nine generously sized suites across three decks.
When touring DOUBLE DOWN I was immediately struck by her condition and was surprised to learn she was built in 2010. This is clearly a yacht with a rigorous maintenance schedule operated by a top-notch crew. Her latest refurbishment was in 2019, including new AV and IT equipment with upgraded VSAT for increased WiFi speeds, all new gym equipment, additional toys and beach set up, new soft goods and linen - a comprehensive refresh that leaves her more than ready to deliver a fantastic charter experience.
That followed a huge refit in 2016 which included a full repaint of both hull and superstructure, a tasteful refresh to her Della Rolle interiors by the renowned Evan K. Marshall and her Quantum zero speed stabilisers were serviced. Maintenance and upgrades have been exemplary throughout her ownership.
What are her most appealing features?
For a start, on the bridge deck she has a dedicated cinema and a climate controlled gym. Outside on the upper deck aft there is a huge al fresco lounge and informal dining space with sit up bars, BBQ and a jacuzzi. This is an amazing space where the family could easily spend the entire day.
As I mentioned, she has nine cabins, which makes her perfect for families with staff if she's cruising privately and versatile enough for multi-party charter groups or corporate entertainment. Because she is MCA compliant, her next owner has the option to operate her commercially or privately.
She's wheelchair friendly with an elevator running from lower to bridge decks. Steps lead up to a sun deck, which is like a solar shrine with simple sunpads and sunloungers, it's a great place for morning yoga too. There's a huge tender garage that converts into a beach club area for quick access to the water.
The owner's deck will probably prove to be the key feature in the sale of this yacht. It's a full beam master with the bed facing forward towards large windows and double doors that lead out onto a private terrace area with an intimate circular lounge for coffee in the mornings. This space provides the owners with great privacy when stern-to in port. The adjacent VIP double suite is well suited to charters with family and friends.
Another stand out feature on the owner's deck is the winter garden aft with dining for up to 18 guests, which can be climate controlled behind glass panels or al fresco. It's one of those special spaces you enter and just take a moment to turn around and appreciate where you are. I've been in the superyacht industry for more than 25 years now and you don't find them too often. It's pretty striking.
The main deck is all about entertainment on a grand scale, there's a real feel of celebration. We have a formal dining room for 18 guests forward, U shaped seating around coffee tables in a large convivial saloon, a piano lounge complete with a Steinway baby grand, and an oval lounge aft of that with hardwood flooring. The romantic in me keeps seeing it as a ballroom but it's laid out as an intimate lounge right now with amazing views and access to the main deck aft.
The lower deck suites are fun too, each with a different cultural theme. Two twin cabins are located forward, each with an additional pullman berth, and there are two double cabins aft.
How do you anticipate marketing her?
The 360 tour is great for getting an idea of the style, volume and layout of the yacht, how the spaces flow. To appreciate the quality and condition, you really do have to get on board. She's in Los Angeles, California for the winter where we can arrange for Covid-safe inspections in person or a video walkthrough with the captain and either myself or lead broker Matt Emerson from our New York office.
She'll be in the Med next summer, most likely around the South of France, where she'll be available for charter and inspections. To take a look around, please contact your Burgess broker and we'll send more detail and arrange a personal tour.
Don't miss the opportunity to get on board DOUBLE DOWN. You will not be disappointed.
