However, if you are simply exhausted after all the wedding madness and don’t have the energy for sightseeing and would rather just relax on board, you can absolutely do that too. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Yueh Hai Ching Temple, aka the Temple of Love, is the perfect antidote to the bustling city centre, while back in town the arts scene has something to suit every cultural taste. From outdoor music and theatre venues to museums and art galleries, the city’s cultural calendar is bursting with events and performances.  

And then there is the dynamic food scene. Singapore has a total of 49 Michelin stars, including three three-starred establishments, while the hawker landscape is so diverse there is certainly a table to suit every palette.  

Discover the treasure trove of seaside towns, ancient fishing villages, beach clubs and romantic cliff-top restaurants suspended between the Mediterranean Sea and the slopes of the Lattari Mountains. Cruise along the coastline, stopping of course to swim and snorkel, and visit the Emerald Grotto. 

Lounge on deck and admire the Li Galli archipelago off the coast of Positano – legend has it that the three islets here were inhabited by Homer’s Sirens, who lured ships with the melodious but mesmerising voices. What could be more romantic than a sunset dip in the turquoise waters here before an intimate dinner served on deck as the sun drops over the horizon?  

Other than a stroll through the romantic gardens that surround the 13th-century Villa Rufolo, perhaps. Time it right and you might catch a concert in honour of Richard Wagner’s opera Parsifal, which is said to have been inspired by these very gardens. And of course, with almost 30 Michelin-starred restaurants dotted along the coastline here, you can enjoy La Dolce Vita lifestyle all the way.  

Clustered together off the west coast of Greece, the Ionian islands of Corfu, Kefalonia, Ithaca and Zakynthos all offer powder-white beaches backed by rugged mountains and a cultural melange of Venetian, French and British heritage.  

Alternatively, the Cyclades to the southeast of the mainland are said to be the birthplace of Apollo, the God of the Sun and Light, and they have certainly been blessed with magical sunsets that are the embodiment of romance.
