Designed to function equally well as either an independent explorer yacht or a high-spec yacht support vessel providing a wide range of services to a mother yacht, YS53 is a highly configurable and versatile 175ft (53.25m) vessel designed, built, engineered and styled by Damen Yachting. Her hull is constructed to Lloyd’s classification and built on Damen’s Sea Axe platform, which is notably efficient in terms of fuel costs and renowned for its excellent all-weather seakeeping. The wheelhouse design ensures that all deck cargo can be visually monitored at all times.

She has a high bow with a very fine entry, which is designed for efficient performance when motoring into big waves. The standard exterior features include full walk-around decks on the upper level with wing stations, a covered outdoor dining area facing aft and guest seating on the forward coachroof. The huge main aft deck is designed to carry and deploy a wide range of large assets with a 15-tonne SWL knuckle boom crane, and there’s a big bathing/boarding platform astern. Further options include an A-frame on the main aft deck for submarine launch and recovery, a helicopter hangar and a raised, certified heli deck with maximum take-off weight of 3,700kg.

Her interior offers 499GT of volume, with various layout arrangements available for different purposes. Depending on layout, she can accommodate 6 to 16 guests and/or staff on the main deck with separate quarters on the lower deck for 10 to 12 crew. In the standard arrangement there is a skylounge aft of the wheelhouse with panoramic views and a comfortable lounge/dining room on the main deck with with big windows on three sides. The owner’s suite is towards the aft end of the main deck accommodation to maximise motion comfort, with a separate dressing room and large en suite bathroom. Three or four other guest cabins are further forward on this level.

A typical payload of tenders and toys might include a 16-metre, 14.5-ton powerboat, a U-Boat Worx C-Researcher submarine, four Sea-Doo PWCs, an Icon A5 seaplane, a crew tender and two Range Rover SUVs.

Propelled by twin MTU diesel engines with a combined output of 6,000hp, she cruises at 12kts with a range of around 5,000nm and her top speed in sea trials is 19kts. Zero speed Quantum stabilisers are fitted.
