2024 wrapped
Published 23 December 2024
2024 was a year full of exciting projects and progress. Burgess is so much more than just our sales and charters: we're a force for good, a progressive leader in the superyacht industry, and we want to shout about that.
So we're celebrating all the brilliance of 2024, looking back at all we've achieved and getting ready for Burgess’ 50th year as we lay the foundations for the future.
Starlink in Krakow
Kicking off the year with a community-focused mindset, in January we supplied the charity All Hands and Hearts with a Starlink, a remote internet system for their Ukraine Crisis Relief Mission. With a growing number of displaced Ukrainian families and individuals who have fled the crisis and now residing in temporary accommodation in Poland, our team identified a key issue on the ground that could easily be solved.
Following several Burgess team members volunteering with the charity in Poland last year, we continued our aid by providing the base with Starlink technology to ensure that the staff and volunteers could effectively carry out their vital work.
South American expansion
Partnering with BYS International (Brazil Yacht Services) in March, we expanded into South America with the aim of serving and developing the region’s superyacht market. With an already impressive client portfolio of South American-based superyacht owners and charterers, putting down roots in Brazil was testament to our investment in the region and showed our commitment to our clients there.
Saving Seagrass
In spring, we launched a conservation aimed at protecting Mediterranean seagrass, in collaboration with Blue Marine Foundation. In previous years we have fundraised for their marine conservation projects, but this year we wanted to be more hands on, providing support where it was needed most. And as the Mediterranean is such a key yachting destination, it only felt right to focus our efforts there.
Later in the year, we sent Nikolas from our Athens office to the island of Amorgos to experience the project first-hand and witness how the donations from the Saving Seagrass programme are being used.
Three new US offices
We continued our US takeover opening three new offices on the continent. Our New York office relocated from its Upper East Side address to the prestigious 540 Madison Avenue tower in April. Then, building on last year’s success collaborating with AspenX, we launched a physical Aspen location to meet clients on the slopes, and are the first brokerage firm to do so. And finally, we’re adding a new office in Palm Beach to better serve our clients in and around Florida.
ALVIA: A true Burgess full-service yacht
A shining example of Burgess 360, the 75.5m Feadship ALVIA was delivered in April this year. The brokerage team introduced the owner to the project in 2019 before Burgess Technical Services took over and managed the build. After being delivered, our Crew Services team sourced the crew and our Yacht Management team now looks after the yacht’s operation. And, as if that wasn’t enough, she is also available to charter exclusively with Burgess.
Charter ALVIAA perfect week
Just before the Monaco Yacht Show, we had our best week of the year with five yachts sold in five days. We also had two new sales Central Agency yachts added and four yacht management contracts sold – a testament to Burgess’ true 360-degree service and the culmination of months of hard work.
Launching the Caribbean Crew Scholarship
In November, we launched the Caribbean Crew Scholarship, a groundbreaking initiative designed to support young people from the Caribbean who wish to pursue careers in the superyacht industry. In collaboration with the ABSA (Antigua & Barbuda Sailing Association) and Ondeck Training Maritime, we're providing a chance for talented sailors who want to join the maritime industry but lack the resources and opportunities to do so.
This year’s scholarship recipients, Junella King and Jahmarly Edwards, are currently completing their course with Ondeck before embarking on their careers with support from Burgess and our industry partners.
Ending on a high
Ending the year as we mean to go on, we sold two yachts – RIBELLE and NAVETTA 42 – wrapping up on a high note. We would like to extend a thank you to everyone that has been involved in our sales this year, and we look forward to a prosperous 2025.
