Semi Custom Business Manager
The Business Manager will take a leading role in creating the new Semi Custom Yachting
business within Burgess, which will operate on a cross-departmental basis including
Brokerage, Charter and Yacht Management in the sub-500GT sector of the yachting
industry.
The Business Manager will be under the direction and supervision of the Managing Director, Semi-Custom Yachting (“MD SCY”).

Over the next 24 months, the objective is to:
- Establish of a team identity with defined business practices and procedures
- Establish and execute the first phase of a business plan as agreed with the Strategic Board
- In conjunction with other internal stakeholders, establish and execute plans to fit with Burgess’ data and marketing agenda
- Grow Burgess’ market share in all businesses in the <500GT space on a sustainable and profitable basis
The Business Manager is expected to:
- Demonstrate leadership and management of the business, working with the MD SCY
- Demonstrate market knowledge and the ability to deliver on key objectives
- Have knowledge of modern sales and marketing techniques with UHNWI clients and high-value assets
- Demonstrate commercial acumen and the ability to hit agreed budgets and operational targets
- The person appointed is expected to grow into a leadership role within Burgess over time
The role would ideally suit:
- A Partner or aspiring Partner within Burgess
- A person in the maritime industry with experience in running a business or a team
- A person with experience in running a team and in providing services to UHNWIs in the travel, retail or property industries
- Someone looking to help establish and grow a business, working across multiple geographies and business lines
- Someone with business or managerial experience and looking to further develop their expertise
Key responsibilities:
Management:
- Drafting a medium term (5-year) business plan and annual objectives, to be agreed with the Strategic Board
- Development of business practices and procedures
- Oversight of the team in cooperation with the MD SCY Page 2
Client Relationship Management:
- Act as escalation point for commercial discussions
- Assist in providing world class customer service and delivery of client satisfaction and loyalty
- Act as support in commercial relationships as required
Market Analysis:
- Conduct market research to identify trends, pricing, and competitive landscape.
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve brokerage, charter and management services and expand market reach.
Sales and Marketing:
- Strong modern sales and marketing knowledge essential
- Develop client targeting strategies in conjunction with Marketing and the Central Data Team to identify clients with wealth profiles in excess of EUR 250 million
- Develop and manage the data and client targeting strategy for CA acquisition as well as direct sales initiatives
- Open new channels for client acquisition
- Collaborate with the Marketing team in the development and execution of marketing strategies to promote yachts for sale, charter and management.
- Assist in the creation and distribution of marketing materials, including brochures, online listings, and social media content.
- Organise and participate in boat shows, events, and industry conferences to promote the brokerage.
Operational Support:
- Assist in overseeing the brokerage, charter and operational management process, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Help manage contracts, documentation, and financial transactions related to yacht sales, charter and management.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of efficient systems and processes to streamline operations.
Financial management:
- Develop annual budget and objectives (initially in partnership with the MD SCY)
- Track and report on financial performance, ensuring tight and effective cost controls
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in business and financial management, including in a supervisory or management role (departmental management preferable)
- Experience in a sales environment, or managing a sales team

Working Conditions:
- Based in one of Burgess’ main locations, and ideally the US, Monaco or South of France
- Frequent travel to meet clients, attend boat shows, and visit yachts.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by client schedules and industry events
