A 34-metre (112.5ft) deck saloon sloop designed by Judel/Vrolijk and built by the elite Dutch Royal Huisman shipyard, BILLY BUDD was delivered in 1994 and refitted in 2022. She is constructed in high-grade aluminium with teak decks and a deep fin keel, and is set up for high-performance, long-distance ocean cruising in high latitudes.

She is cutter rigged with a carbon fibre mast and Park Avenue style boom, a fully battened slab reefing mainsail and three headsails – genoa, yankee and working jib – on Reckmann furling gear. Her foredeck is mostly flush with enough space to stow her tender on passage. There’s a minimal coachroof around the mast, seven skylight hatches and eight dorade vents to ensure good ventilation.

Aft of the deck saloon is a raised passenger cockpit with U-shaped seating on three sides of a large, high-gloss drop leaf table, high coamings for security at sea, a sprayhood and a canopy on steel poles that can be fully enclosed. Her hydraulic primary winches are mounted alongside the passenger cockpit – safely outside it – and the steering cockpit is separate with large twin wheels.

She offers a total 113GT of internal volume and is arranged to host up to six guests on board in three cabins, with interior design by Pieter Beelsnijder and a very high standard of finish. The deck saloon has ample seating for guests in tan leather banquettes around a table to port and a notably large, well-equipped nav station to starboard which includes an inside helm. It forms a mezzanine area with the lower saloon, which has separate lounge and dining area.

The owner’s suite is aft on the lower deck with a study desk and a large double bed on the centreline with two large skylight hatches above. The other two guest cabins both have twin berths and also pipe cots above. Separate quarters for her crew of five are located in the bow.

A true trans-ocean voyager with a 3,500-mile range under power at a cruising speed of 9kts, her main engine is a single Scania diesel that gives a top speed of 12kts.
