Make waves with the newest superyacht toys for 2022
From flying above, skimming across, or diving beneath the water, the ever-inventive companies who supply the superyacht playground continue to deliver innovative and cool ways to entertain every guest on board. Whether your preference is to explore the natural world, get the adrenaline pumping, or to learn a new skill, there is sure to be a watertoy perfect for you.
Mini submersibles
Submersibles have been a feature on board many exploration yachts for a few years, but the experts in the submarine and submersible world have created some incredible new models for 2022. For those seeking to brave the deep while cruising on a smaller superyacht, U-Boat Worx has launched the second model in their NEMO range, the NEMO 2, which is designed specifically for smaller superyacht use.
This compact two-seater is only slightly heavier than the NEMO 1 (the lightest and most compact submarine in the world to date), and fits into a storage space approximately the size of two jetskis, making it accessible to most smaller superyachts around. Cruising at speeds of up to three knots and reaching a depth of up to 100m (330ft), the NEMO 2 offers everything a superyacht guest needs in order to discover the rich marine life that lies beneath in air-conditioned comfort, and without even getting wet.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the scale Triton Submarines has revealed two exciting additions to their fleet, the Triton 660/9 and 660/7 AVA. These much larger submersibles can either transport six or eight passengers, plus pilot, in an expansive, flexible space that can easily be re-configured for any number of activities.
Think cocktails at 200m (660ft) below sea level, dinner followed by a movie night beneath the surface, or an early morning yoga session surrounded by an audience of fish – the possibilities here are as endless as your imagination. Says Triton Co-Founder and President Patrick Lahey, 'Both Triton models are a complete departure from conventional thinking and another great example of a revolutionary design re-imagined.'
Sailing dinghies
Learn the ropes with the latest inflatable sailing dinghy from Tiwal. Powered by the wind and your own energy, the Tiwal 2L is easy to set up and use, responsive, stable, and comfortable in light winds. Ideal for both children and adults, this dinghy has the capacity for either two adults, or one adult and two children to learn together.
'Very stable, the Tiwal 2L is quick for beginners to learn how to use. The inflatable wings allow for a comfortable and reassuring introduction to the sport of sailing, while more experienced sailors will also appreciate the boat’s responsiveness and its playful side in higher winds,' explains Marion Excoffon, Tiwal's designer and co-founder.
Stand-up paddleboards
The avid paddleboarder and art enthusiast can now enjoy the water in style with Beau Lake’s limited-edition paddleboards and surfboards. Handcrafted in Canada and built to the highest production standards, Beau Lake is very much at the luxury end of the market and specialises in creating the most exclusive paddleboards money can buy.
'Beau Lake has created a new class of paddleboard, effectively transforming a common commodity into waterside luxury,' says Paul Lavoie, Beau Lake's co-founder and CEO. All of their models are a step up from your standard paddleboard; some are highly limited in production, including their Beau Lake x Graham Gilmore Oceanica collection, for example.
The limited-edition board from their art series is more than a waterside accessory. 'The Beau Lake x Graham Gilmore paddleboard is floating artwork – as beautiful on the water as it is on display on a yacht or boathouse,' explains Director of Marketing Brad Ariss. The Gilmore is available as a limited run of five signed paddleboards and five surfboards.
Hydrofoils
If the idea of a paddleboard seems too sedate, then why not try out the latest electric hydrofoil surfboard from Lift Foil. Perfect for those who like to surf but find themselves in calm waters better suited to superyachts, the new LIFT3F allows riders to glide through any metre deep body of water at speeds of up to 26 knots (30mph).
The LIFT3 F features a proprietary fibreglass board of 1.5m or 1.6m (4ft 9in or 5ft 4in) crafted by Lift’s engineers, and a carbon fibre mast, motor housing and foil package. Its updated ergonomic design increases aerodynamics and manoeuvrability, but still offers a stable ride for all levels of rider.
Electric surfboards
The X-Sport is the sportiest, most durable jet board to come from the leading electric surfboard experts Radinn and comes ready for all manner of adventures with its durable, lightweight XDL Tech hull technology.
Spanning just over 1.9m (6ft) in length, it features a quad fin setup making it more stable on the water. Propelling riders to speeds of up to 27mph (or 35mph for the pro version), the X-Sport guarantees fun on the waves for both balance-challenged beginners and experienced riders who want to get radical.
Underwater scooters
Explore your underwater surroundings in style using SeaBob’s new Black Line Design Edition. First pick your preferred SEABOB model in one of three high gloss colourways – blue, orange and green. Our personal favourite is the emission-free F5 SR SEABOB, which features an electric stream power system allowing for speeds of up to 14 miles per hour at full bore (if you can hang on).
Now you can take your diving or snorkelling experience to the next level, with seven gears and a sport fin to increase manoeuvrability, and two integrated HD cameras to capture the ride and what you are seeing so you can show your friends later.
Inflatables
With a wide range of inflatable toys available ranging from floating islands and slides, climbing walls and even entire water parks, the latest offerings from the leading inflatables companies are simply out of this world and will blow your children’s little minds.
For 2022 Aquaglide has introduced a number of additions to their extensive playground collection, including models like the Thor and the Double Icecap. The Thor features chute slides and jumping platforms, while the Double Icecap is double the fun of the Universal Icecap – making it ideal for the centre of any waterpark set up or as a standalone toy.
If all the jumping around and climbing sounds too exhausting, then why not lie back and relax on FunAir’s Floating Shaded Island. Ramping up the relaxation factor, this six-person inflatable island set-up includes three free-floating loungers attached to a triangular lounger hub with a built-in netted pool.
'Superyacht owners love the flexibility of our modular beach furniture products,' says FunAir’s Managing Director John Courtney. 'The Floating Shaded Island takes this concept to the next level. You can use the double shaded lounger on the beach, in the shallows, on the deck, or tethered from the swim platform out at anchor. You can even connect three loungers together to max out group relaxation.'
Hydro flights
Experience the amazing sensation of levitation and the thrill of flying over the water with the latest hydro flight equipment from Jetovator. Whether a novice or experienced rider, the Tandem Jetovator features twin controls so that guests can ride with an instructor (a trained certified crew member) on either the front or rear seat. Without the need for comprehensive training, even children can give flying a try.
