Sales Brokers Charles and Nikolas on: sporty semi-custom yachts
Published 18 novembre 2024
Building on our last story where sales brokers Justin and Thibault discussed their favourite Benetti yachts, now it’s the turn of Miami-based sales broker Charles Jones and Athens-based CA listings manager Nikolas Pantagias. We find out why they think a semi-custom yacht is a great option, plus their favourite sporty models.
Speaking to Charles, he revealed that the beauty of semi-custom is that you get the best of both worlds: ‘Building on a semi-custom platform allows for peace of mind but with enough interior and option customisation to make it your own.’
When asked to choose his favourite yacht, it’s a tough call – all the yachts in Burgess’ fleet are exceptional – but for Charles it’s got to be MAVERICK. ‘She’s part of the Imperio 40 series built by Admiral. She was built to include an impressive interior volume of 479 GT, so despite being only 40m she feels like a 50m. She also has a masculine, modern and aggressive exterior look which makes her stand out in today’s market. Her contemporary interior also makes her feel modern and comfortable. A great feature is her large tender garage which allows for a healthy amount of water toys, jet skis and a large tender.’
An equally sporty powerhouse, Nikolas’ choice is SODAN, a 2023 Custom Line Ferretti at 38.4m. ‘Being the only CL120 available for sale in today’s market, she represents one of the hottest brokerage opportunities in her market segment. The CL120 platform combines generous and modern interior and exterior spaces with substantial power and deliverable speeds – she’s capable of up to 25 knots and comfortably cruises at 21 knots.’
So, what kind of buyer are these yachts perfect for? If you’re looking for something that can cover considerable distance or get from A to B at pace, MAVERICK and SODAN should be top of your list. As Charles explains, ‘MAVERICK has unbelievable range of nearly 5,000nm at 10 knots. She can comfortably cruise to far off places and explore areas that her competitors couldn’t dream of.’
As well as an advantageous speed, semi-custom yachts often have a shallower draft than their 50m+ counterparts. SODAN is no exception: ‘With her shallow draft, she is the perfect yacht to cruise the Mediterranean or the Caribbean in style, comfort and speed. Her seductive lines, luxurious features and powerful speed are tailor made for cruising from bay to bay in style.’
Tempted? If you’re considering taking the plunge and either buying or building a yacht, it’s worth thinking in advance how you plan on using it. ‘Owners need to understand how they will use their yacht and what their yachting programme will look like,’ Charles explained.
‘Yachts have vastly different hulls and are made from different materials, all commanding very different qualities like stability, speed and comfort. It’s important to know how you will use the boat to make the right choice when purchasing. Even understanding how many guest and crew cabins are needed should be a well thought out question before making a purchase.’
